Arizona company hoping to become 'Airbnb' of electric vehicle chargers
PHOENIX — Convenience and cost savings at the finger-tips of electric vehicle owners, that’s what a recently-launched app is claiming it will bring to the Valley.
The average cost to charge an electric vehicle at home is about 60 dollars per month, according to energy.gov. The cost is generally higher at public chargers.
A new local Arizona app is aiming to save electric vehicle drivers money when charging, BuzzeFounder and CEO, Aaron Lieberman said.
“You come to somebody’s home, you plug in the car and the app meters the charge," Lieberman said. "So we know exactly how much power you use."
The Buzze app wants to become the 'Airbnb' of electric vehicle charging. App users can choose level two charging systems from a map of nearby hosts like Tyler Williams.
“When they show up my app also alerts me that they’re here and plugged in, so I don’t necessarily have to be here," Williams said. "When they leave and disconnect the app also alerts me they’re done and they’ve left.”
Buzze aims to solve a problem many electric vehicle drivers face, Williams said.
“The ability to charge your electric car is the big holdback to purchasing, and if we can overcome that hurdle, it’s really going to help everybody move forward," Williams said.
Even with the Buzze app, there’s a lack of access to fast home charging for people who rent, live in apartments, or live in a home without a charger. So their app opens homes with charging availability to more Arizonans.
“That’s the whole point of this, is that thing is sitting there unused most of the time," Williams said.
With its now 60 hosts around Phoenix, the Buzze app wants to get one million new electric vehicles on the road, making this option for drivers more accessible and affordable.
Buzze is offering free EV charging at all of its hosts across the Valley through November 15th.
